Diyarbakır Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı House Cultural Museum
The house where our famous poet Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı was born and spent his childhood years was built in 1733. The house, which has all the features of Diyarbakır's traditional residential architecture and consists of four wings arranged around a central courtyard, was built entirely of basalt stone as ground plus one story. The building consists of summer (north), winter (south), spring (east), and autumn (west) sections in accordance with climatic conditions. The kitchen is arranged in the form of an iwan in the northeast corner, and there is a Turkish bath structure in the southwest corner. The building has a total of 14 large and small rooms, a kitchen, a cellar, and a toilet. The most important place in the building is the summer house, which has two floors. On the second floor of this section, there is a large room with an iwan with double arches in front of it, called the main room or the mabeyn. Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı was born in this room on October 2, 1910. The house, which was expropriated from the Tarancı family by the Ministry of Culture in 1973, was restored in 1974 and opened to visitors as the Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı Culture Museum.
