It is carved into a fairy chimney located at the edge of the settlement area of Gülşehir (Arapsun) district in Nevşehir province. The area where the church is located was a dense settlement during the Byzantine period, and it can be easily understood from the surrounding fairy chimneys and places carved into tuff rock. There are two more rock-carved churches in the immediate vicinity of the church, but these churches do not have frescoes. Gulsehir St. Jean Church was carved into a fairy chimney as two floors. The church on the ground floor has a single apse, a cruciform plan, and its cross arms are barrel vaulted. It is older than the church on the upper floor, and stylized animal and geometric cross motifs are depicted on the bedrock in red ocher on the walls.
