The Tatlarin Underground City, which was first discovered in 1975, was cleaned and opened to tourism in 1991. In Tatlarin Town, only 2 floors of the underground city, which is located on a hill called "Kale" by the village people, can be visited today. The real size of this area that can be visited is quite a lot, and it will be revealed when the time progresses and all of it is cleaned. The Tatlarin Underground City, whose original entrance has been demolished, is entered through a 15 meter long tunnel. The tunnel opens to a very large hall with a keystone at its entrance. The gigantic keystone, or in other words, the bolt stone, which is frequently encountered in Cappadocia underground cities, is a clever precaution against danger. In the face of a threat, it can close the entrance by pushing towards the door and can only be opened from the inside. It is thought that the niche on the right side of the hall, which is entered through the tunnel, was the place where the dead were buried or a dungeon in the Roman period due to the presence of 3 skeletons, and this niche was later used as a cellar and kitchen in the Byzantine period because it was deepened and turned into food pits. Again, the indispensable ventilation holes of underground cities can be seen in this hall. One passes through the narrow tunnel on one side to another large room.
