MUSEUM SHIP GAYRET
TCG GAYRET (USS EVERSOLE DD-789) joined US Navy in 1946 and served as a ship of US Pacific Fleet until 1973. She also served in Korean War and Vietnam War. USS Eversole was transferred to Turkey anda served for 22 years in Turkish Navy until 1995. She has served as Flag Ship in several war games and hosted Presidents, chiefs of General Staff and Commanders of Armed Forces. She was the first ship in Turkish Navy EQUİPPED WİTH AN asroc Missile System and also being the fisth ship that fuel transfer while moving. She has been awarded with a latter “E” which means Exellent for her perfect service in Turkish Navy. When she was completed technological life was taken from active duty in 1995. She was turned into Turkey’s first Museum Ship to help preserve of cultural history by the coolabrative work with Turkish navy and Mayoral Office of İzmit at her current location in İzmit.
MUSEUM SHIP HIZIRREIS
TCG HIZIRREİS (USS GUDGEON SS-567), as one of the submarines after World War II, was launched on 11 june 1952 and commisioned in the US navy. After serving 30 years in the US Navy, USS Gudgeon SS-567 was decommissioned, renamed TCG HIZIRREİS in honor of Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha, and transferred to Turkey on September 30, 1983 and joined Turkish Submarine Fleet. In 1997, she was modernized and equipped with the indigenous .Vatos Fire Control System. During her 21 year service inthe turkish navy, she divd for 19771 hours, took part in 19 national duties and 9 NATO war games and 5 training exercises and 11 rotation duties. She was taken out active service in 2004 and turned to a museum to exhibite in İzmit. She is opened to the public from 29 October 2004
