Kadıkalesi/Anaia (pronounced Aneya) is a mound and fortress settlement located 10 km south of Kuşadası in Aydın Province, nestled among summer resorts. The fortress is bordered by the Aegean Sea to the west, Mount Mykale to the south, Soğucak village to the east, and Kuşadası city center to the north. The walls surrounding the fortress are approximately 150 meters in diameter, and the fortress itself is 23 meters above sea level.
The bronze Hittite figurine (Aydın Museum) found during early excavation phases is important because it indicates that Anaia played a key role in Hittite-Mycenaean relations during the 2nd millennium BC. The Proto-geometric pottery shows that Anaia was a major focus of Hellenistic colonization, which began around 1050 BC. Along with these findings from the excavations are ceramics from later periods: ancient Greek, Hellenistic, Roman, Islamic, and Byzantine.
