One of the rarest artists of our country and the sycamore of Turkish Music, Prof. Dr. Alaeddin YAVAŞCA was born on the 1st March, 1926 in Kilis and died on 23rd December, 2021 in İstanbul. The artist brought more than 600 works to Turkish Music, trained many artists, received the title of State Artist in 1991, and was awarded the "Presidential Culture and Art Grand Award" in 2008. He was deemed worthy of the “Parliamentary Outstanding Service Award” in 2010.

The house where Prof. Dr. Alaeddin YAVAŞCA was born and grew up in Kilis was registered as "Immovable Cultural Property" in 2003 and allocated to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on the 20th January, 2016. According to the historical records in his inscription, Yavaşca family's house was built in 1910-11. Hacı Cemil Yavaşca, father of Alaeddin Yavaşca, who had the house built, had the floor tiles brought from Italy; he made a sundial which determines the exact time according to the shadow of the nail when the sun hits in the yard and he also made the window and cabinet door carvings himself.

The mansion, which has a nearly square rectangular plan, two (2) floors, wooden ceiling, and the floor of which is furnished with Italian marble, has an area of approximately 300 m2. Its walls were built of dirty white cut stone unique to Kilis. Although it has an open yard, there is a water well and an ornamental pool in the middle of the yard. There are eight (8) rooms around the yard with windows facing the yard. It is known that next to the kitchen section on the ground floor, there is a hammam that can be entered and exited by stairs and designed as underfloor heating. In addition, in the basement of the house, there is a cellar where the winter food is stored, whose ceiling structure is cross-vaulted and woven with stone masonry.

The house, where he was born and grew up in order to keep alive the memory of such a valuable artist of Turkey and Turkish Music and to introduce the artist to the younger generations, was opened as “Alaeddin Yavaşca Museum” on the 1st March, 2022 (Birthday of Aleddin Yavaşca) by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. In the basement of the museum; life in old Kilis, the history of old Kilis houses, some samples of materials used in the houses, Kilis immovable cultural assets and a short video that introduces the city are shown.

On the ground floor; the Artist's Composition, Radio Days, Family Life and Childhood, Arrival in Istanbul and Medical Education,

On the 1st Floor; Themes on Music Room, Concerts, Authorship, Poetry and Painting; information boards, the items he uses in his daily private and working life, his books and the awards he has received are depicted and exhibited with the artist's photographs and silicone sculptures.
