Throughout history, the lands of Türkiye were home to many different civilizations. Among these, the Roman and Byzantine Empires were especially known for their breathtaking mosaics. The art of mosaics is no doubt beautiful, but the process of creating them is time-consuming. Thousands of colored and uneven pieces of glass, pottery or stone were pieced together by artists to create these works of art.

The mosaics that decorate the floors and walls not only add aesthetics to the place but also give valuable information about the social life they belong to. In these mosaics, besides the mythological scenes, important characters and mostly subjects from daily life were covered. In this way, it is possible to have many different ideas with the clothing types, accessories, professions, tools, food types, architectural structures, and social relationships in antiquity. In short, mosaics help us to create a connection with the ancient world.

Traveling through Türkiye today, you can still witness the many beautiful mosaics that survived history, displayed in Türkiye's many museums. In addition to these individual artifacts displayed in archaeology museums or various archaeological sites, Türkiye is also home to many mosaic museums, two of which are the biggest in the world! These museums are; Zeugma Mosaic Museum, Hatay Archaeology Museum, Great Palace Mosaics Museum, Haleplibahçe Mosaic Museum, Narlıkuyu Mosaic Museum.
